Leonia, Bergen County, New Jersey, was settled by Europeans in 1668 and currently has a population of approximately 9000 people and is 1½ square miles. The borough is situated 2 miles from the George Washington Bridge, often referred to as “The Gateway to the World”. Even with its close proximity to the largest city in the world, Leonia has been able to maintain its’ small town feel as a quiet family community. The short commute to New York City makes Leonia a desirable place to live, and it also has a small central shopping area, numerous parks, a volunteer fire department and ambulance corps, a large recreational program and many churches and synagogues all within tree lined streets. Leonia has been a “Tree City, USA” for more then ten years.
